For every owner there is either a adopted dog, or A PUPPY..
At times we need to show puppy love a control, the little training that a dog can get is important for there growing lives….
Now for training for a puppy, Classes were there is puppy play is a great way to start anything, but before that, the vet needs to make sure they give you the ok for them to play amongst the group…
When getting the puppy home make sure you have the following items..
1) Crate
2) Wee-wee pads
3) Flat-line collar.
4) Treats
5) 6FT leash
Potty Training….
When showing a puppy were to go you must have much pactients,
Make sure you use the rule of 2-4 meaning, every 2-4 hours depending on the month of the puppy you apply on the leash and walk the puppy to the wee-wee pads, add a command ex. “go pee-pee” or “go poopy”. Once the puppy has gone and done it’s business you praise them for that. Make sure your using soft treats not hard biscuits, or kibble. If the puppy doesn’t go within the first couple of mins, then you place puppy into the crate, wait for about 2 mins then repeat the exercise. Your puppy will start to understand what the commands are once used several times,
Rule of thumb: make sure that you keep the wee-wee pads on the same spot, if anything make sure you use a mesh rug on the bottom of the wee-wee pads so it can stay in place.
When is it the right time for my puppy to start to walk outside?
Once the puppy has an OK!! From a vet, then he or she can start to walk with a collar and leash outside… Take your puppy to a grassy area, this will be like taking him or her to a wee-wee pad cause it’s soft, say command for puppy to do it’s business,
Rule of Thumb: before your puppy goes outside (after it has gotten all of it’s shots) make sure you work on some basic commands ex: sit, stay, heal
When should I see a trainer for help?
Remember not all trainers will be right in there word on training, please make sure you research your trainer, try to build a relationship with your trainer, remember they will be on call for any questions. A trainer will never tell you let’s wait till your puppy is able to play with other dogs, the work starts right away, from everything basic.. Remember you want to be able to work with your puppy right away, if not they you will never have control of your dog, even if you are able to do it down the line, it will not be the same..
When should I neuter or spay my puppy?
This question is always played with, some vets might say to fix your dog once it has gone threw a curtain period of time.. For females you wait for there first heat, for males it’s about 8 or 9 months..
Some vets will tell you it can happen after it’s final shots..
To be quite honest with you, it depends on breed. Some large breeds you might need to wait till there first heat or 8-9 months, some not..
Little breeds again it will depend…
The reason is cause some breeds need to mature so they can live a long healthy life, some really can be ok with just doing it right away, ex: some pit bulls need to go into maturity for them to live a healthy life, or not to have complications. It happens; it’s a genetic problem… Some breeds like a Shiba Izu really can get fixed right away.
When should I allow my puppy to just be a puppy?
Really good question, in reality you want to not have your puppy get on the couches, or our beds, or really be by the eating table. They should only be on the couch or on the bed when we say ok, not cause they want to just be and it’s a cute thing, remember everything is a cute thing cause they are puppies, but you will regret it in the end…
What kind of commands should I use?
When working with a trainer they will tell you “make sure tonight you work on commands you want to have your puppy learn”, this way everyone is on the same page, it would be wrong if everyone is on different pages then you will have a confused puppy.
Puppy classes
When a dog is ready to play with others, it’s good to take them to puppy play classes, this way you can monitor them in how they play, make sure your have your trainer there with you, so you know what is play and what to do if it’s escalating, it’s a good thing to show them how to play nice not ruff..

Remember a puppy is still a dog, you need to show affection last, exercise and discipline always comes first…

How do I introduce my dog with another dog I want to adopt!!!!
Everyday we see our dogs and would want a companin for our bestfriend, so we look and look to see the right dog, now remember, your dog maybe dominate, or submissive, get a dog that is an opposite of the energy of your dog, at times breeds that are two females or two males at the same house hold will cause conflict, so please consult a behaviorist to get the right temperment of your dog and what they would suggest......
When choosing a dog you first see what your dog is first ex. Is your dog energetic, dose your dog love to play with other dogs meaning do you take your dog to the dog park or run? How is your dog on walks, and how often do you take your dog on walks....
Once braking down that, then you start to looks for a couple of dogs and research them, call the rescue group and ask questions on the dog!!! Questions to ask temperment, good with other dogs, good on the walks, and sometimes they might have a history on the dog, so that's a good thing to ask, start to narow it down to about 3 dogs and see them, sometimes rescue orgs have events were they will bring there dogs, you can ask if the dog will be there, once seeing the dog spend time with him or her, let the dog get to know you by a good walk with you and the foster... Let them know the type of dog you have and they can determine if the dog is right for you(remember they are fostering the dog, so they will know the dog better then anyone, breed is one thing, but once you add personality it's a different ball game, ex goldens are a great breed but there personality can variery)....
Then go to the next step, ask for a play date to introduce the two dogs, make sure it's in a park, and have them play..... You will know the reaction of the dogs once they meet, (sometimes it takes about 3 play dates before everything between them are good)
Next step, bring them to the naborhood, ask the foster to bring the dog over, meet two houses away, and let then say hi to each other. And then take a nice walk around the naborhood, then bring in the house and let the leashes go, (no toys or food should be out while they are still getting to know each other) have a trial period with the dog, and if everything works out for the week, then make your decision and there you have it
Now remember to follow the rules of pack order, what u do with the one dog you have the other follow, start taking both dogs back to obideance classes, and have them bond that way as well as the walk.... And make sure excersie and a balance is well mantain at all times with both dogs.....
So with two happy dogs you will know a joy into what two dogs are to your life, keep them consistant......

For shelter dogs it's a sad experiance, and most dogs don't leave the shelter, some get put down, please rescue a dog rather then getting a puppy, but it has to fit you, please contact a behavior consultant inorder to know what's right for you!!!!!!!!

I strongly suggest when choosing a dog from the shelter, you get as much history as you can, most or if not all shelters get owner surrenders, or get the dogs that were romming the streets.... Look at the rescue orginization websites, most of the dogs are as well in foster homes, most times dogs in foster home are closely monitored, and know to whom the dogs should go to(meaning what type of home the dog can go to). If your going to a shelter to adopt a dog here are some steps to make sure your choosing the right dog for you and your family
Walk through the whole shelter and take a closer look at all the dogs that are good for adoption!!!!! Not all evaluations are accurate, I do suggest to have a behaviorist join you in assisting the right dog to choosie...
All dogs are nervious when they are in the shelter, but you go to the cage and just let them sniff you(please don't put your hands inside the cage), at times they will bark cause they are excited, so if you feel that it is the right dog, ask for assistance into taking the dog out to the back and have the dog run around with you to get a good feel for the dog, now all times they will not listen for the first 5-10 mins that's normal, let the dog burn as much as it can before interacting with the dog
Now most dogs are nervious when coming out and crouch to a corner, now something to remember, when a person is a bit scared or nervious, you don't reach to touch them, you talk and let them come to you, same with a dog, the mind set of a dog is I don't know you I don't trust you, dogs don't have a train of thought, they just act unless trained to obey commands... Now best thing you can do for that situation is let the dog come to you, have a good smelly treat with you and have pactients..... Most dogs that are shy in the shelter are wonderful dogs when they get to know you, and trust you. Now once adopting a dog make sure you get to know your new dog, take long walks with your dog, play with your dog.. It takes about 2 weeks for a adopted dog to really get settled in, once two weeks is up time to get to work, start with obidience classes, then move on from there... It's very important for the dog to know your voice, and know what you want...
With a puppy, the minute you start training is when the puppy has all it's shots, and is walking outside, but time for wee-wee pad training is always a must, how you start, once the puppy pees and poo in a curtin place command by saying good pee or good poo, prasie and the reason for this, that way the pup knows it did good and won't be afraid to go outside, or on the pads, as well the pup will know command for it, so it's a start to develope the mind....

Everyday, every corner people blame the dog for it's behavior, not really realizing it's them, in a percentage 95% of the reason the dog is lunging at dogs or humans, have aggressive behavior, or fearfull behavior....
Things to do if you see you have problems with your dog(s) well the first step is addmitting you have a problem, and getting help....
Now, here are tips for your everyday problem, when walking with a dog, make sure your calm and your dog is listening, start by first walking out the door, then making sure your holding your dog the right way,(left hand is not always the right way, make sure you use your dominate hand to have better control... Ex if your a right handed person, you have the dog and the leash on the right side, all dog training books are wrong when they say always walk your dog on the left hand side)
Now make sure your dog sits on every corner, this will teach the dog pactients and have better control for problems when walking, this will also keep his obidence training fresh....
Now when passing a dog, and your dog has a problem passing one, or lungs, or pulls to say hi!!!!!! This is what you do(please contact a professional, and make sure you have the right method) most times you can sit your dog go in front and have the dog look at you,(you can use a treat with this excersie) the other way is you keep walking and use the words "leave it"
Make sure your arm is loose and not tense, how can your arm be tense, well you arm is at a 90* degree angle, as well if you use two hands to hand the leash both arms have to be calm.....
Every breed is different, even the mix breeds, when there puppy owners really don't take time into training the puppy correctly, or ignore the signs and think it's funny to see that!!!! Or not address the problem.... This will create problems,
Even when you adopt a dog, remember your inhareting a problem, nothing that a little TLC can't handle or work,

Bringing a baby home from the hospital is an exciting event for both parents and animals living in the house. A new baby will change the hierarchy in the household, which is likely to be confusing for your the dog. Begin taking steps long before the baby arrives to prepare your pooch for the new family member. Following the guidelines will help keep your child safe and prevent problems.
Items you'll need for training:
1) A fake baby (make sure it makes baby sounds)
2) baby gate(s)
3) supplies for the baby
4) treats to reward the dog for good behavior....

A few training tips:
1) Use the fake baby and carry it in your arms as you practice walking around the house. Do not allow the dog to follow you or jump on you. Reprimand him if he does and say "down." When the dog doesn't follow you, praise him and give him a treat. This exercise helps teach the dog manners.
2) Put baby gate(s) up on the door(s) of the room as you prepare the nursery. Do not allow the dog in the room.
3) Establish a set routine for the dog, when baby arrives nothing changes.
4) Don't allow the dog sleep in the same room as you or the baby.
5) Make sure during down times when the baby is asleep you have play time or give attention to the dog.
6.) If your dog is good with other dogs, find a day care center and have your dog go to it, sometimes stress can build with the dog when the baby cries. It's good when the dog is out the house enjoying playing with other dogs....(Remember when your dog comes back home refresh training in basic commands, you don't want it to pick up unwanted behavior from other dogs.)
7.) Your dog should never be in front of you (walking or sitting)because this will create leadership confusion. When walking your dog he should always be on your side, not pulling in front.
8.) Bring home an article of clothing from the hospital that holds the scent of the mother and the baby. Let the dog sniff it.
9.) Never allow the dog to sniff your baby, until you feel ready.
10.) When in the same room as your dog and baby always have
another person with you, this way you're not alone and you're able to focus on the baby.

11.) Never leave the baby alone with the dog.
12.)Once the baby's room is done walk in with your dog. Let him sniff around but do not let him jump on the crib or play with the baby's toys.

Bully Breed's and the right way to train them!!!!!!!!
Pitbulls, Bull Dogs, French Bull dogs etc...
When you see a bully breed or if you have one, most of the time trainers will say use treats to get them out of aggression, or pop the collar.. and say with a hard NO!!!!!!
well that all good and dandy but why bully a bully breed...
even ceaser millan does it, just remember too much tention is not a good thing for a bully breed, they challange and challange, and a lot of owners are not good with a challange... So here are a bunch of tips for you to know that way it's easy on you.....
First, apply a halti on your dog, if your havd a bull dog, or French bull dog, then a chest harnest, or Martin-Gale is reqired for this.....
not if your dog lunges then stand in front and relax the leash,
have your dog look at you, and have the dog sit.. Rule of Thumb is when the dog sits they are calm, if the dog lays they are in the most submissive position,
Alpha dog is required if your losing control of your dog, (Alpha dog is placing your dog on the side and holding your dog down)

Why dogs don't like cats
Why cats don't like dogs, or the other way around... There many thyrus for this...
But many time people try to avoid them, sometimes good to do cause well dogs are off the walls, but if you have a cat at home and you have a dog or puppy, then you have to have them co-exist,
I get this call everyday so I feel like this must be said, don't listen to a trainer, read this blog and try it, this is the only real method that will work...
Things you need
1. Crate
2. Collar and leash
3. Treats
set the crate up, make sure it's comfortable for the cat, insert the cat in, (please make sure the dog has gotten a lot of excersie, and knows basic obediance, before doing this, as well make sure you have someone with you in the room)
now apply the collar and leash on your dog.. Start with a heal apporching the cat in the crate, have the dog sniff the crate, make sure the cat knows your apporching, if the cat hisses, starts to go nuts it will set the dog off, therefore the extra person will calm the cat down, if the dog starts to go nuts make sure you use the correction, if that doesn't work exit the room and try again, when the dog is doing good you reward, prasie, have the dog sit and lay next to the crate with the cat in it, once you have accomplished a common ground...
This excersie needs to be done everyday, you will establish dog and cat relationship, sometimes it takes longer, sometimes it's right away... But you will have peace

set the crate up, make sure it's comfortable for the cat, insert the cat in, (please make sure the dog has gotten a lot of excersie, and knows basic obediance, before doing this, as well make sure you have someone with you in the room)
now apply the collar and leash on your dog.. Start with a heal apporching the cat in the crate, have the dog sniff the crate, make sure the cat knows your apporching, if the cat hisses, starts to go nuts it will set the dog off, therefore the extra person will calm the cat down, if the dog starts to go nuts make sure you use the correction, if that doesn't work exit the room and try again, when the dog is doing good you reward, prasie, have the dog sit and lay next to the crate with the cat in it, once you have accomplished a common ground...
This excersie needs to be done everyday, you will establish dog and cat relationship, sometimes it takes longer, sometimes it's right away... But you will have peace

what kinda of collar do I use?
Martin-gales, Prong collars, Choke chain, Flat line collars
these are all training collars, but what are they really used for?
Martin-gales, there are two types of these collars, one is used just for running, the other is used for training...
check choke martin-gales are the ones you use for training, the nylon martin-gales are the ones you use for running or guilding.....
Martin-gales are used for puppy training, and some behavior training, not really used for aggression, but sometimes you need to use it for it...
ex: if you have a puppy you need a check choke martin-gale,.
if you have a very sensitive dog you need a martin-gale.....
Prong collars, these collars you use for bite, its used for most correction trainings...
ex lunging, flight, flight and fight, control for bigger dogs or fighting working breeds
ex Mastives, GSD's, pitbulls etc..
Choke chains, these are for control and correction training...
ex flight, flight and fight, control, and hard but soft correction, used for big and some mid size dogs...
ex pitbulls, GSD's, weaton terriors etc....
flat line collars, are for when your dog is well trained, not used for training,
could use for every dog.....
now with all the training collars you don't use with a flat line collar, and make sure you use these collars correctly
if the training collars are use with another collar then why the correction, might as well not use anything..
everyone as well makes the mistake on letting the collar hang loose, bigger mistake,
when happens your not correcting anything the dog is doing, your training collar is on the strongest part of the neck, it must be high, behind the ears, you will have not only better control, but the corrections will be high and effective
some training with any of these collars are for reason... please consult a professional before doing any trianing, this will determine what type of help you need for your dog..
now all dogs won't respond with just any coreections, here are the reasons, if your dog has fear issues then a martin-gale will be needed with a clicker..
if your dog needs a heavy correction you need a prong, most dogs that need a heavy correction are dogs that are aggressive towards other dogs or humans, now aggression comes in different ways... this is wh a behaviorist is needed to determine what type of aggression it is, a lot of aggression is man made, so will need the right collar and proper training,.....
Again please consult a professional before buying or using any of these collars...

why everyone is choosing the wrong method
So reasons why everyone has a dog...
they are wonderful animals, and as people we love them to every extent, but with every dog there is a problem, like puppy issues, like they are not showing proper behavior as you thought..
the truth is when you adopt a dog your inheriting a problem they had, something that there previous owner as done wrong, or they were dumbed in the streets cause they could handle them, and the dog had to fend for themselves...
So what do you do, get someone who is a professional, but this is a problem. not all dogs need a trainer, some dogs need real help....
Here is a difference between trainers and behaviorist.....
Trainers focus on one method, and using too many treats that works for basic obedience, and puppy training, agility training, nothing more.....
Behaviorist work on more intense problems.. real red zone cases...
people wonder why there dog is not helped, why they are spending so much money on something that is not working, and a lot of it is cause as trainers and or behaviorist, we can only guild you on to how your dog needs to walk, needs to interact etc...
it's really up to the owner to keep up and do the homework,...
now how do you know what you need....
really it's not all black and white and or colors,
puppies need classes, socialization this is when you need a trainer
if your dog is lunging at other dogs, you need a behaviorist to understand why and work with you to work the dog off the problem...
now those were examples.
As a Behaviorist and working with people and dogs for about 10 yrs, I do understand and really know why people use everything the trainer sez, cause they are so sure about what they do.. but everyone can be sure what they do, but they have to know what they are doing, not just anyone can help you, you have to know who can help you.....
